Last Wednesday I attended an all female screening of Wonder Woman with my good friend and our daughters (we each have one) at the Alamo Drafthouse in Richardson, Texas. It was an awesome experience which I will never forget! I’ve never seen a movie with such a strong feeling of solidarity among the attendees before. Every time Diana did something really cool we all clapped spontaneously and in unison. And she did a lot of cool things! And we all laughed with joy as if on cue every time Diana made some empowering statement. There was no taking a back seat to a man in this movie! Her fearlessness and that of the Amazons would bring a tear to my eye. Times they is a changin’!
No more wink, wink, nudge, nudge for this Diana Prince. She knows who she is and what she needs to do and sees no need to pretend the men are in charge. Gal Gadot was the perfect choice for the role, because she has the strong, unwavering voice and presence necessary for today’s Wonder Woman. And the director, Patty Jenkins, is a wonder woman in her own right. She has squashed the naysayers with a mighty force and along with Gal Gadot has rescued the DC franchise. And that’s what Wonder Woman does, right? Comes to the rescue!
Yes, indeed…times, they is a changin’!
